Do You Ever Feel...
Like the machines in your life are smarter than you are? Today at work I stuck to pieces of paper in the copier and asked for 10 copies. When I went to go sort them out and staple them I only had the first page. I went back to the copier and looked again, nope. No more pages. Then I happened to pick up the copied pages. There was the second page on the back of the first page. My first thought was "oh shit, the copier is now smarter than I am." It did this (as far as I can tell) independently. Then tonight I came home and downloaded some music. It's been a really long time since I've bought much music. Partly because I was getting all my music from Walmart and then I changed computers (a couple years ago when I got my first lap top) and realized that I couldn't take all my music with me to a new computer. It was only playable on the first computer and my mp3 player. So I haven't bought much since then. I've been using the mp3 player a lot more often lately though and wanted to add some new stuff (and hopefully delete some older stuff that I don't care for which has been pretty much beyond me for a long time). I decided to go with Itunes even though my player isn't an ip0d. Easy right. No. I can't figure out how the hell to get new music onto my mp3 player because the damn thing keeps trying to link up to windows media player and sync with that (transferring all the songs that I have just now figured out how to remove from the mp3 player back on to it). I can't figure out how to get it to link to itunes instead. To those of you who have an actual ip0d, is this easier if you have their product? Cause this is a pain. I can't really afford to go get a new player but find myself wondering if I should. However if I did I'm guessing all of the songs I bought from Walmart would then no longer be able to play on the ip0d because I wouldn't have the "license" to play them. I just want to listen to the music I've actually purchased. Is that too much to ask??????

Hey there, fellow nurse.
Sounds like your syncing problem is just a matter of configuring the options on your MP3 player. Try exploring the thing to see if you can find an option where you select the preferred music player.
It IS easier if you have an iPod, however, once you do, you'll be locked in the apple world. Most music sold in the iTunes store only works with the iPod. There are only a few MP3 players that support iTunes' music format and Digital Rights Management (DRM) technology. Products like the Creative Zen can do such a feat, and they're much cheaper than an iPod. And in some cases, they have more features. I own one myself.
Here's a suggestion though: why don't you try the Amazon.com MP3 store? You don't have as wide of a selection there as you get in iTunes, but all the music you get there is DRM-free, meaning that if you change computers, you can still use all the music you downloaded. iTunes is progressively becoming DRM-free as well, but it's taking some time.
If you live in the USA, there's an even better alternative: the Zune Marketplace. Zune is Microsoft's MP3 player, but you don't need one to use the software or the store. They have what's called a "Subscription Service", where you pay $15 dollars a month, and you can download all the music you want. However, you can only actually buy and keep 10 songs each month, all the others are simply "rented", meaning that if you stop paying for the service, they'll get deleted. You can always buy them, you just have to pay beyond that fixed $15 (generally $0.99 per song). Or you can wait until next month.
There's also Rhapsody, which is a nice MP3 store as well. There's plenty to choose from. I suggest you head over to Cnet.com and check the video comparisons they make, and see which one is best for you.
I feel outsmarted by technology all the time. Not only is my car smarter than me, it also talks back. Well, doesn't really 'talk' but it is always flashing messages at me. I hate it!!
I use Napster - similar to the commenter above, I pay $15 a month for unlimited music but have to pay $0.99 for a track I want to keep. Otherwise, if I cancel my subscription all the other songs go away. Still far more complicated than it should be!
Ha! Sorry about the techie problems - I have them ALL the time. And most machines are smarter then me.
I hope you figure it out.
Nice how the copy machine knew what you wanted and did it! [I find that machines usually do less or not what I want them to do...]
Yay for your pants fitting and even being big on you! What a wonderful feeling :-)
And hope you are having a great Thanksgiving :-).
I'm going to forward this to Chicken. He has an iPod and tech skills with iTunes. I do not.
Unless the first commenter fixed it all for you. Let me know!
